Week of October 26 – November 1, 2026

· 5 min read
An autumn evening in a small-town Washington downtown with pumpkins, hay bales, glowing storefronts, and costumed trick-or-treaters

This is the big one, neighbors. The Chehalis Farmers Market closes out its 2026 season on Tuesday, Mount Rainier throws open its gates for a fee-free day, and Halloween lands on Saturday with trick-or-treating up and down the county, from downtown Chehalis and Centralia to the streets of Packwood. Here is what is happening around Lewis County from Monday, October 26 through Sunday, November 1.

Chehalis Farmers Market: Last Market of the Season

Tuesday, October 27 · 10 AM – 3 PM

NE Boistfort St & N Market Blvd, Downtown Chehalis · Free admission

This is the final market of the 2026 season, so make it count. Tuesday, October 27 is the last Tuesday the Chehalis Farmers Market spreads its stalls across downtown, and the growers are saving the best of the fall for it: apples by the bag, winter squash, pumpkins, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, garlic, and greens, alongside cheeses, farm-fresh eggs, honey, artisan breads, jams, cut flowers, and handmade crafts. The market accepts SNAP/EBT and WIC/FMNP benefits, runs rain or shine, and has been a gentle Tuesday-morning ritual all season long. Stock the pantry, thank the farmers in person, and send the market off until next May.

Lewis County Board of Commissioners

Tuesday, October 27 · 10 AM

Hearing Room 223, Historic Courthouse, 351 NW North St, Chehalis · Open to the public

The county's regular weekly business meeting happens Tuesday morning at 10 AM in the board's Hearing Room on the second floor of the Historic Courthouse, and it is a good one to sit in on. A public hearing on Ordinance 1385 is on the docket for the day, along with the usual round of land use, roads, and budget items, and there is always time for public comment if you want to weigh in. Agendas are posted on the county's website before the meeting so you can see exactly what is coming up. It is the simplest, most direct way to stay in the loop on the decisions shaping Lewis County.

Free Entrance Day at Mount Rainier National Park

Tuesday, October 27 · All day

South (Nisqually) Entrance via Highway 706 from Packwood · Free admission for the day

Tuesday is one of the national parks' fee-free days, held in honor of Theodore Roosevelt's birthday, and that means a free pass into Mount Rainier National Park for everyone. From Packwood, the south Nisqually entrance is the closest gateway, and a late-October drive up toward Paradise is one of the quietest and most golden of the year, with fall color lingering in the valleys and snow starting to dust the summit. Admission is free all day, but check the park's road conditions before you head up, since early snow can close the upper reaches. Layer up, bring the camera, and enjoy the mountain for free.

Trunks with Treats at the Veterans Memorial Museum

Friday, October 30 · 6 PM

Veterans Memorial Museum, 100 SW Veterans Way, Chehalis · Free family event

Get the costumes ready a day early. Trunks with Treats turns the lot at the Veterans Memorial Museum into a friendly trunk-or-treat on Friday evening, the kind of low-key, family-run affair where neighbors open their decorated trunks, hand out candy, and the kids wander from car to car with their bags out. It is a wonderful warm-up for Halloween night, a chance to see friends before the big day, and a safe, welcoming way for little ones to practice the trick-or-treat routine. Arrive in costume and bring a flashlight.

Trick or Treat Transit in Downtown Chehalis & Centralia

Saturday, October 31 · 3 PM – 5:30 PM

Downtown Chehalis (N Market Blvd) & Downtown Centralia · Free

Halloween afternoon belongs to the shopkeepers. Trick or Treat Transit, hosted by Lewis County Transit and the Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce, brings costumed families to the storefronts of downtown Chehalis and downtown Centralia on Saturday from 3 to 5:30 PM, with local businesses handing out candy along the way. In Chehalis, the Police and Fire departments set up right next to the historic Chehalis Theater, so it is a full downtown loop of treats, friendly faces, and small-town Halloween spirit. It is the perfect daylight outing before the evening festivities, and it is completely free.

Also happening this week

Halloween stretches all the way to the mountains this year. Packwood holds its town-wide Halloween in Packwood on Saturday, October 31 at 4 PM, a family-friendly gathering with trick-or-treating, games, costumes, and a costume bike ride around town, a charming way for the whole family to celebrate in the shadow of the Cascades. Also Friday, the Centralia Regional Library runs Books for Treats from 3:30 to 5 PM, where costumed kids trade a few words for a free book and a treat, and earlier in the week the Vernetta Smith Chehalis Timberland Library (400 N Market Blvd) hosts Comics & More, a tween graphic novel book club, on Tuesday from 4 to 5 PM.

For grown-up plans, Lucky Eagle Casino in Rochester keeps its Legends Live On Stage series going Friday and Saturday nights from 9 PM to midnight in the Legends Sports Bar, and Saturday brings a special Halloween BINGO session for anyone feeling lucky. For one last taste of the season, Huntting's Pumpkin Patch & Haunted Forest (600 Cinebar Rd, Cinebar) stays open daily through Saturday, October 31, with its big corn maze, pumpkins, and the spooky forest trail for brave souls.

And a look ahead: with the Chehalis Farmers Market now wrapped for the year, mark your calendar for the market's Harvest Dinner Fundraiser on Saturday, November 7, a chance to gather one more time around the table in support of the market before the holidays take over. The evenings are drawing in, the leaves are nearly down, and Lewis County is easing gently into its cozy season.

This is the week to fill the pantry at the final Chehalis market, breathe the free mountain air at Rainier, and walk the downtowns with the kids in costume. Happy Halloween, Lewis County.
